Advanced Content Programs
A student's academic performance in advanced content coursework is evaluated quarterly. Students must maintain an average of 80% in order to continue in advanced content coursework. Students falling below 80% will be placed on quarterly probation with an intervention plan to be put in place to assist the student in improving their performance. Students failing to make gains during the probation process will be discontinued from advanced content coursework for the remainder of the academic year. Students will have the opportunity to be reevaluated for advanced content placement in the next school year.
For Rising 6th Graders: Having advanced content classes in elementary school does not automatically qualify your students for advanced content classes in middle school. Middle schools may set their criteria, so it is best that you contact your student's middle school directly for questions concerning advanced content classes in 6th grade.

Dowell Elementary uses the standard Cobb District provided rubrics for Advanced Content Qualification. Students can begin qualifying for advanced content course work at the end of their third grade year. Students qualify for advanced content classes through analysis of grades, classroom performance, and standardized test scores. If your student qualifies for advanced content classes, you will be notified in writing at the beginning of each academic year. |
